Billy Rawlett was born in Maryville, Tennessee just outside of Knoxville. Billy Rawlett's deep musical roots in
blue grass, traditional country & western, and Memphis blues are influenced by what he calls "Real Hillbilly Style".
He recalls visiting his grandparents in the 1960s in middle Tennessee and remembers the whole family gathering around
the television to watch the Grand Ol' Opry on Saturday nights. Although Billy has performed on some of the same
stages as The Statler Brothers, Roy Buchanon, Helen Cornelius, Narvelle Felts, Tom Paul Glasser, Head East,
Cold Blue Steel, and many others, his recent emergence as a singer/songwriter, and self-produced musical talent
is thirty years in the making.
Billy began his musical experience at age 15 playing drums for many groups in the Jackson, Tennessee area near
Lexington, Tennessee where he went to high school. During that period Billy also took up the acoustic guitar and harp
and began writing some of his first songs. During the mid 70s Billy played drums for one of the area's local rock-'n-roll
groups called "Raisin' Kane" and he later went on a national night-club tour with a country band called, "The
Dixie Waters Band". This band worked all over the U.S. and Canada. Later Billy managed and performed in a band
that was to become one of the Jackson, Tennessee area's hottest groups in the early 1980s called,
"The Paula Bridges Band". They still perform today in that area and are a top draw. At this point in about 1982,
Billy had recently graduated college from the University of Tennessee, with a Mathematics degree. He has spent the
last 17 years in the computer industry, raising a family and pursuing his song writing and performing goals. Billy
had been perfecting his craft and writing about the experiences he has encountered along the way. Recently, Billy
formed a blues-rock project called "Live Bait". He was the front man whose hard driving vocals and delta style
harp playing brought "Live Bait" to the forefront of the Dallas, Texas Blues Rock scene. Billy recently decided that
it was time to transition into the singer/song writer role which he's been working toward for some 20 years.
The resulting two great new releases from this worn & torn survivor of rock-'n-roll and country, Billy Rawlett
- "You Can't Get Your Money Back" and "What's A Poor Boy To Do". Found on these CDs are Billy Rawlett's true life
experiences coming to life in his poignant song lyrics like, "Wild Wind Rushing", "Only Going Solo", and
"Reasons for Leaving", etching out lonely, grief-ridden characters who come out on top and grow stronger from
the pain. "Wild Wind Rushing" is dedicated to the parents of Plano and Northeast Central Texas, where a foreboding
heroin epidemic rushed so many beautiful and strong teenagers to early senseless deaths. His Hillbily Spirit is
personified in songs like "In Your Dreams", "Sleepin' Around", "Old No. 9", and "Yes She's Mine", while a carefree
sense of humor rolls over you in light hearted songs like "Good Luck Trailer Park" and the impressive
title cut, "You Can't Get Your Money Back". Billy calls these white trash songs. "What's A Poor Boy To Do"
has several very introspective songs like the title cut and "Til' My Heart Won't Beat". He can and will entertain
you, stimulate your senses and as he puts it, "Generally get you thinkin'...... and throwin' in a bit of
Rock-'n-Roll won't hurt anything either, that's for damn sure!".
As a hard-charging Singer and Blues Harp player, as well as an introspective and clever songwriter, Billy Rawlett
brings to the current, Texas and National, music scene a fresh new vision. Billy says, "I'm just gettin' warmed up".
He writes songs from the gut and holds nothing back. His heart and spirit are immersed in his lyrics and songs.
Billy Rawlett is currently living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and is available for tour and club dates in 2000
with his new band, Rebel's Secret. You must see, hear, and experience this hard driving performer and songwriter
soon in a venue near you. Or just order one his CDs and start getting the Billy Rawlett boogie woogie into your bones!
