The Last Shopping Day

It's not just a hillbilly's dream that on Christmas Eve,
That Santa will fly down our chimney with ease,
Wearing his big red suit with his whiskers flowing white,
Carrying a bag full toys for all the hillbilly girls and boys,
And spreading cheer with his noble ho ho ho,
And riding with eight reindeer across that midnight sky,
And even hillbillies know that when it begins to snow,
Old Saint Nick, he ain't too far behind.

But we're stuck at the mall in a lot full of cars,
We've been buying those last minute gifts,
And as our Christmas flashes by and the kids scream and cry,
My wife keeps waving her shopping list,
So please try to remember,
When shopping in December,
Who's gift did you forget?

But what Kris Kringle don't know that in Amarillo when it snows,
Sometimes it don't let up for days,
Yea and back in Tennessee I can remember one December,
My Aunt Gady, said it'd be snowing on Christmas Eve,
So me and my sister, we got down on our knees,
We prayed each and every single night,
That Mr. Santa wouldn't get drunk like Uncle Billy and Cousin Ray,
And he'd be sober to drive his reindeer with his big flyin' sleigh,
And spread all those toys, happiness and cheer,
"Heck - Mr. Santa, we've been waitin' for you all year".

GrandMa shouts, "Aunt Mabel's not on this shopping list",
So what we all have to remember,
When shopping in December,
Make sure you've done your homework well.

Cause there's no turnin' back and the stores are all closed,
Hell - Santa's already left from the north Pole,
And when the stars passed over Bethlehem two thousand years ago
There weren't no Santas, and there weren't no shoppin' malls.

Now Santa has taken Jesus' place,
It's up to him to spread joy to the human race,
So if we remind ourselves just how it came to be,
We'll all find peace and accept our God's grace,
And we'll understand that miracles often do take place,
And that eight reindeer can fly across the cold starry sky,
And that Santa's smile will brighten all the children's eyes,
And his red jolly face will keep on helpin' the human race,
Remember Jesus in that manager scene,
And Peace on Earth will reign supreme.

So if you're stuck at a mall in a lot full of car,
And you've been buying those last minute Christmas gifts,
Please try to remember when shopping in December,
Not to wait until the last minute.

Cause there's no turnin' back and the stores are all closed,
Hell - Santa's already left from the north Pole,
And when the stars passed over Bethlehem two thousand years ago
There weren't no Santas, and there weren't no shoppin' malls.
