Billy's Old Gossip

2000 Apr 20 (Thu), 16:46 Well Miss Debbie and I have been hard at work trying to book up the spring calendar. We had pretty good success locking down two of the Dallas area's prime honky tonks the Lone Star Cafe on June 9th and the Red Onion on June 16-17th. We are still busy working on the rest of spring and getting ready for Summer and Fall.....so we hope to see you in a venue near you soon. Rumor has it that with a little bit of luck I can get a writers showcase at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville this summer if I will we get off my ass and push the issue a little. Debbie's dad, Jack , knows the owner and he thinks he can book this gig. We'll what's he waitin' on I say! So everyone wish me good luck! We auditioned at the Ranch House in Sasche, Texas in March and Ron Wallace, the owner said he loved us that we sounded really great, but we weren't playin any Top 40 country etc....and he couldn't book us. I think that was a complement! So if you are over that way tell Ron you'd love for him to get Billy Rawlett in there! Maybe he'll change his mind. He has a nice large club with plenty of dancin' space for 2-steppin' to those great Billy Rawlett tunes. We it seems that Sundays is going to get pretty busy for song writers trying to get to all the open mics which are available. Adair's Starts around 2pm-until Red Onion and KHYI starts at 5pm - until 8-9pm Lone Star Cafe, Hosted by J.D. Cobb starts around 7pm - until 10pm.....J.D. I'm sorry I just got tooooo drunk last Sunday at the Red Onion to fall in at the Lone Star. .....on Wed, Ronny Spears is hosting a pickin party at the Top Rail the same time as Bruce Kidder and KHYI's party is at the Lone Star. Sounds like competition to me. .....and Don't forget to slip by down at the Son's of Hermann Hall on Thursday nights and join in around the camp fire.... So if you think havin' a day gig and trying to break into the song writer market is easy you should follow us around one week and we'll see just how long your liver holds up! We did a couple of acoustic style shows for the Dallas Polo Club down in Red Oak, Tx and it basically rained both times and the last time the Beer guy didn't even show. Talking about a drip dry party event! Although, we think those folks might show some promise in becoming a party crowd they have a long way to go! They should attend our annual party and get the proper party prospective going. Anyway we hope they'll have us back later on into the Summer or Fall after it drys out........KHYI - 95.3 sponsors a NOON songwriter CD showcase at Bill's Records and Tapes in Dallas every Friday from 12 noon til 1pm. We hosted the March 29th show and Dos Tornado Bros - Dan & Ric . joined in on Mandolin and Banjo and we had the hillbilly spirit flowing. Bill loved us and wants us back and we are shooting for sometime in June to coincide with an advertising push we are working on. Also some of my CSC co-workers came by as well as some Presby folks. Thanks (to BIll, Jay, & Terry and all those sexy secertaries you guys had with you ...what a power lunch!) for your support and thanks for buying those Billy Rawlett CD's and other Bill's merchandise. See you there soon in June or sooner!....On April 7th, Miss Debbie and I along with our Drummer J.P. and his mysterious wife, Elizabeth are going out to Ft. Worth to see John Prine at the Bass Auditorium. Its always good to pick up a few tips from one of the masters. John Prine is one of my hero mentor types that has written as many good songs as he has bad and takes all that in stride. I look up to any one whose has hung in there that long and come out on top especially after a serious illness.......April 19th I had a great Telephone interview with renowned radio personality and radio inovator Eddie Bear, for ETC Radio. Visit his web site at http://www.radioetc.com (see links on this web site)and look for my interview coming up soon in May. Eddie will be some of my favorite pics from both the Can't Get Yout Money back and the What's A Poor Boy To Do CD's. Let me know if your get to hear it!.....Hollar at ya next time Billy Rawlett
